WHAT IS AN ARM LIFT?

An arm lift, also referred to as brachioplasty, is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to improve the appearance of the upper arms. During the procedure excess skin and tissue is removed from the arm between the armpit and the elbow. This allows the skin to be pulled tight giving a contoured appearance to the upper arms.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING AN ARM LIFT?

Brachioplasty is performed under either general or twilight anesthesia for your comfort. Our skilled surgeon will make an incision on the underside of your arm, so they may remove excess skin and fat from your arms.

The size and shape of the incision will be determined by the quantity of skin and of tissue to be removed. Once this has been accomplished, they will pull your skin taut and close the incision with sutures. Brachioplasty typically requires between two to four hours to complete.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT FOLLOWING AN ARM LIFT?

As with all surgeries, recovery following arm lift surgery varies from patient to patient. You will experience swelling, soreness, and bruising in the upper arms for one to two weeks following your procedure.

After brachioplasty North Shore patients typically report only mild to moderate pain, which can be controlled with prescription pain medication. You should avoid lifting your arms above your head for at least three to four weeks following an arm lift and avoid vigorous physical activity which could damage the incisions for three to four months.
