What is AviClear?

The primary cause of acne is the overproduction of sebum by the sebocyte cells in the sebaceous glands. AviClear works to clear acne by shutting down this overproduction, providing relief from excessive oil production, mild inflammatory acne, and even severe cystic acne. Using a 1726nm wavelength to precisely target and down-regulate over productive sebaceous glands, it addresses acne right at the source. This treatment is the first and only FDA-approved energy-based treatment for mild to severe acne and has been shown to address both current and future acne breakouts.

What causes acne breakouts?

While the overproduction of sebum is the primary cause of acne, the reasons for this overproduction can vary. Acne breakouts can be caused by many factors, including hormonal changes, inflammation, medications, or diet. While stress does not necessarily cause acne, if you are already prone to breakouts, stress can definitely cause flare-ups.

  • Treat teen, adult, or postpartum hormonal acne
  • Combat excessive oil production
  • Avoid ongoing use of Accutane or harsh OTC acne treatments
  • Non-invasive and no downtime

Consultation and Preparation

During a consultation, we will examine your skin, take a detailed medical history, and discuss your goals and concerns for acne treatment. Typically, for optimal results with AviClear, the initial treatment plan is made up of three 30-minute sessions spaced three to four weeks apart. At your consultation, we will confirm if this is the right treatment for you and provide preparation instructions, which primarily consist of avoiding tanning products and using sunscreen during sun exposure.

Procedure

At your appointment, your skin will be cleansed, and a wet compress will be placed on the treatment area for a few minutes to create a moisture barrier. Then, your provider will pass the laser over your skin. Usually, more than one pass is required. Built-in cooling technology called AviCool makes the AviClear procedure nearly pain-free, and most patients find it very tolerable. Each treatment session takes about 30 minutes.

Results, Recovery, and Aftercare

Unlike some other more invasive and abrasive acne treatments, there are usually little to no side effects with AviClear. Some patients may experience some mild redness or inflammation, but this is usually brief, and you should be able to resume regular activities right away. Results will be noticeable anywhere from 4 to 12 weeks after your final treatment, and many enjoy a long-lasting reduction of acne.
