Also known as blepharoplasty, eyelid surgery is done to rejuvenate aging eyes – and turn back the hands of time.
What To Expect During Eyelid Surgery
Eyelid surgery is done under general anesthesia, so you will be asleep throughout the entire experience. During surgery, Dr. Pryor will address the upper and/or lower eyelids, depending on where your signs of aging are most prevalent.
Upper
During upper eyelid surgery, Dr. Pryor will remove excess skin and minimize droopy eyelids – restoring a refreshed and well-rested expression.
To perform this surgery, he will create small incisions in the creases of your upper eyelids. Through those openings, he will remove excess skin and lift the remaining tissue to restore a subtly alert look.
Lower
Lower eyelid surgery focuses on removing fatty deposits beneath the eyes, plumping hollow areas, and restoring a smooth and youthful contour.
To perform this surgery, Dr. Pryor will make a small incision hidden within the natural creases beneath your lower lash line. Through that tiny opening, he will remove excess fat and skin, while tightening lax muscles.
Dr. Pryor will help you determine if eyelid surgery can accomplish your cosmetic goals during your initial consultation at our Rockford office. In general, we have found that the best candidates for this procedure are:
A Brand New You
Eyelid surgery with Dr. Pryor can restore youthful, well-rested eyes that transform your appearance. And for many of our patients, the results last for years.
Though some scarring is inevitable, Dr. Pryor takes great care to place these marks so that they are concealed within the natural creases of your eyes. Thus, they are virtually undetectable once you have healed.
How to handle the recovery
There is a substantial recovery period associated with eyelid surgery. After the procedure, your eyes will be red and swollen, and you may experience excessive tearing, dryness and blurred vision. All of these effects are temporary and will disappear as you heal. Although we will review these details during your pre-operative appointments, here is a quick look at the recovery guidelines for eyelid surgery:
You will need to return to the office one week after your procedure so that Dr. Pryor can evaluate your progress, assess your scarring, and remove your stitches. After about ten days of recovery, most of our Rockford patients feel well enough to resume their normal daily activities.
