The Procedure

The neck lift is done under general anesthesia and will last between two and three hours. To begin, one of our expert Rockford neck lift plastic surgeons will create small incisions behind the ears and beneath the chin.

Through those discreet openings, they will remove excess fat, tighten lax muscles, and remove a small portion of the platysma muscle. In some cases, they will also perform an ultra-precise liposuction procedure to remove unwanted fat and contour the area. Once the underlying structures have been reshaped, the surgeon will drape your skin over your new contours, trim away any excess tissue, and carefully close the incisions with sutures.

The Recovery

Most of our patients need to take between one and two weeks off from work following their neck lift. The first few days will be spent almost entirely in bed. During the initial recovery period, we recommend having a friend or family member stay with you to help out around the house.

Here are a few things to keep in mind as you heal:

Wear loose-fitting clothes to avoid irritating the neck area
Avoid strenuous activity, exercise and heavy lifting for a few weeks
Take your pain medication as prescribed to keep discomfort at bay
Bruising and swelling will dissipate within a couple of weeks
