As you age, experiencing skin laxity is expected.
Excess skin and fatty tissue in the upper arms can have impact your self-confidence causing you to want to hide your arms. Excessive arm skin is especially common for those who have experienced a dramatic weight loss. Dr. Landon Pryor can help. An arm lift can help you feel confident when wearing sleeveless tops, swimsuits, and other clothing choices, with your arms appearing toned and fit, rather than saggy and flabby.
An arm lift, also referred to as brachioplasty, is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to improve the appearance of the upper arms. During the procedure excess skin and tissue is removed from the arm between the armpit and the elbow. This allows the skin to be pulled tight giving a contoured appearance to the upper arms.
As you age, your skin loses elasticity. This can cause skin to sag and droop in many areas of the body.
For those who have experienced significant weight loss, skin can lose its elasticity as it stretches when you gain weight. Once the elasticity of your skin is compromised, it cannot be restored to a firm look, no matter how faithfully you exercise. An arm lift can give you firm, toned, attractive arms you be confident to show off.
If you have lost a significant amount of weight, you should be proud of what you have achieved. It can be depressing to realize that you cannot show the results of your hard work because of loose, hanging skin. An arm lift can boost your self-esteem and allow you to show off your new figure by:
Brachioplasty is performed under either general or twilight anesthesia for your comfort. Dr. Pryor will make an incision on the underside of your arm, so he may remove excess skin and fat from your skin.
The size and shape of the incision will be determined by the quantity of skin and of tissue to be removed. Once this has been accomplished, he will pull your skin taut and close the incision with sutures. Arm lift surgery typically requires between two to four hours to complete.
As with all surgeries, recovery following arm lift surgery varies from patient to patient. You will experience swelling, soreness, and bruising in the upper arms for one to two weeks following your procedure.
Most patients report only mild to moderate pain, which can be controlled with prescription pain medication. You should avoid lifting your arms above your head for at least three to four weeks following an arm lift and avoid vigorous physical activity which could damage the incisions for three to four months. You will see the results of your newly contoured upper arms within days of your procedure – a very rewarding experience.
