At Pryor Health Plastic Surgery, we strive to provide the best rhinoplasty Rockford has to offer for our patients. Here’s a look at what to expect before, during and after your surgery.
How to prepare for your nose job
The ultimate success of your rhinoplasty will depend largely on what happens during the planning stages. As such, the surgeon will spend a great deal of time with you during this phase – assessing the imperfections you’d like to address, discussing the changes you’d like to make, and guiding you in making cosmetic decisions that will look natural. He will also help you to visualize your anticipated results to ensure that you are on the same page every step of the way.
What to expect during your nose job
Your rhinoplasty procedure will be done under general anesthesia and should take about one to two hours. During surgery, the surgeon will take either an open or closed surgical approach. With the open approach, they will create a small incision outside the nose, along the strip of tissue that separates the nostrils. By fully opening up the nose, our skilled surgeon can visualize the underlying nasal structure and obtain a direct surgical route. Although the external incision means there will be some visible scarring, it is usually very difficult to detect once the area has healed.
With the closed approach, the surgeon will place all incisions inside your nose – which results in undetectable scarring after surgery. This approach is also associated with less swelling and a quicker recovery time, but it’s not ideal for all patients. It’s only appropriate if you require minor changes to the nasal tip. In general, more substantial nasal shaping is best accomplished with the open technique.
How to handle the recovery
The recovery period associated with a rhinoplasty is approximately seven to ten days. We recommend arranging to have a friend or family member stay with you to help with tasks around the house and minimize your discomfort. As you heal, headaches, swelling, bruising, discomfort and nosebleeds are common. During this time, it’s important to:
We will ask you to return to our Rockford, IL office one week after surgery so that your surgeon can check on your progress. During this visit, they will also remove the splint, stitches and nasal packing. Most of our Rockford rhinoplasty patients are able to return to work and their normal daily routine after this appointment.
A nose job with our skilled surgeons can improve the shape, size and overall appearance of your nose – giving you a brand new look that boosts your confidence.
